Skyscanner unveils new Cheapest Destination planner tool

To the backdrop of its news of the Top 10 Cheapest Destinations

Based on the fact 64% of Brits are planning to head abroad in 2026 but only 38% have taken the plunge and booked their flights, according to its research, metasearch giant Skyscanner’s has launched a new tool to help travellers find the best deals.

The new feature called Cheapest Destination Planner, works by travellers selecting the month of travel they want and the tool will then reveal the top 10 cheapest destinations (on average) for that month.

It includes the top reasons to visit and an average price for a return flight alongside the cheapest days to travel.

The firm has launched its new tool with data from its research that 38% haven't booked flights is less when it comes to hotels and car rental too.

It falls to 37% for hotels and 8% for car hire too, which is often the piece of the holiday with the shortest lead time.

Destination indecision and concerns over cost are the biggest booking barriers as over half share they are still deciding on destination (54%) and over a quarter (26%) still trying to find the best deals.

62% of Brits think their flights are going to cost more than £150 return this year but Skyscanner has found destinations with returns for less than this price.

Lyon (France), Milan (Italy), Madrid (Spain), Copenhagen (Denmark) and Prague (Czechia) were found top be the top five cheapest destinations for 2026, with Berlin (Germany), Bucharest (Romania), Agadir (Morocco), Venice (Italy) and Tromsø, Norway completing the top 10.

It also found the cheapest day to fly according to its analysis is a Friday in 2026. Only 2% of Brits surveyed thought Friday would be the cheapest with 21% thinking Tuesday and 16% Wednesday.

Skyscanner Travel Trends and Destinations expert, Laura Lindsay, said: “January travel planning is hugely important to Brits as holidays provide a much-needed moment to look forward to post the festive period.

"Sadly, our research shows that in 2026, many Brits are overwhelmed at the prospect of booking (51%), with costs top of mind for most (62%).

"At Skyscanner, we’re committed to making sure everyone can get the break they deserve, by using smart data to find real savings.

"With the average flight prices of our cheapest destinations less than £136 return to some really fantastic locations, we hope 2026 can still be a great year of travel for all!

"Our new Cheapest Destination Planner has been designed to take the stress out of planning, helping travellers understand how to make their money go further this year.”
