Travel technology firm CodeGen is to expand into providing ‘smart packaging’ technology for airlines.

It is the first time that the developer of the TravelBox technology, used extensively by tour operators, has focused on the airline sector.

CodeGen’s technology can work alongside established passenger systems and allows other products and services to be seamlessly added to the airline’s booking flow.

Any product can be provided for and popular add-ons include car hire, transfers, cruises, hotels and insurance.

The so-called smart packaging technology can either allow airlines to sell extras as included in one package price, or identify ancillary merchandising opportunities.

The company is to promote its services at the New Generation of Airline Passenger Systems conference in London next week.

Board director Bharat Patel said: “As an established travel technology provider to many global tour operators, we have developed and evolved our systems to offer more comprehensive services to all areas of a travel business.

“The ability of our technology to work well for airlines looking to offer more options as part of a flight package has been extremely valuable to our tour operator clients, and we look forward to exploring further future uses specific to the aviation sector as we invest more in the airline industry.”

Members of the CodeGen team participating at the conference will include newly appointed commercial director Tim Wright.
