Thomas Cook goes beyond current offering, adds ancillaries
OTA Thomas Cook, part of the eSky Group, has enhanced its ancillary offering with two new partnerships, giving holidaymakers more choice when it comes to planning and protecting their getaways.
The online travel agency has partnered with GetYourGuide, a leading marketplace for travel experiences, allowing customers to add tours, attractions and activities as part of the Thomas Cook holiday booking journey.
Customers can also browse and book experiences after their holiday has been confirmed, with more information available here.
It’s also agreed a new travel insurance partnership with Cover Genius, the global infrastructure for embedded protection.
Customers can now access two protection options when booking a holiday. A comprehensive travel insurance policy provides cover for medical expenses, trip cancellations and lost baggage, while a cancellation protection offering provides cover should customers need to cancel their trip for specified unforeseen circumstances.
The two new travel protection options, Travel Comprehensive and Trip Cancellation, will be available initially to Thomas Cook customers in the UK.
Peter Smith, SVP travel at Cover Genius said: “When we asked travellers what protection matters most, two things came out on top: emergency medical cover and trip cancellation.
“That’s why we’ve put both at the heart of the Travel Comprehensive and Trip Cancellation plans we’ve built for Thomas Cook, alongside protection for delayed departures, baggage loss, theft or damage, and 24/7 emergency assistance.
“There’s a clear need to give travellers greater confidence when they book. Our research shows that 87% of consumers think about what could go wrong before making a purchase, while 79% of those who have previously bought protection report high satisfaction with it. This launch is just the first step in our partnership with Thomas Cook, and we’re excited to build on it and bring even more relevant protection to their customers over time.”
Jakub Bajorski, chief product officer at Thomas Cook, said: “We’re thrilled to be expanding our ancillary offering with these two new partnerships that will change how holidays are shaped with Thomas Cook.
“Thanks to GetYourGuide, customers will now have access to a huge range of experiences around the world, from guided tours and major attractions to family activities and more off-the-beaten-path options.
"At the same time, our partnership with Cover Genius gives holidaymakers even greater choice when it comes to protecting their break."
