UK tourist board VisitBritain has launched a flight search engine on its website, modelled on Kelkoo, TravelSupermarket and other price comparison sites.

The site will scrape data on over 500 UK in-bound airlines and display departure times and prices.

In order to book a ticket, users will be able to follow a deep-link direct to the booking engine of an airline.

The VisitBritain tool will have access to major scheduled carriers, low-cost airlines and online travel agents, such as EBookers and Opodo.

VisitBritain’s director of commercial and marketing services, Kenny Boyle, said: “Our new flights engine is another element of VisitBritain’s online and CRM strategies to remain ahead of our competitors around the globe.

The tool has been created for VisitBritain by technology company TravelFusion.

“We’re pleased that TravelFusion will be helping us to further enhance our reputation as a national tourist organisation at the leading edge of marketing,” Boyle said.

TravelFusion chief executive Moshe Rafiah said: “The creation of this search engine is a major initiative when you consider that air travel is a key component for most international visitors to the UK.

“We see this as a great new model for tourist organisations and web applications looking to enhance their services by adding powerful travel content with an intelligent search engine.”
