Eve Air Mobility wins eVTOL order from AirX in Japan
Manufacturer Eve Air Mobility has signed an agreement with Japanese operator AirX, covering up to 50 eVTOLs. The first two aircraft are expected in 2029 for urban services in Tokyo and Osaka.
Eve Air Mobility has formalised an agreement with AirX, a Tokyo-based Japanese provider of air mobility services. The agreement provides for the acquisition of several dozen electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and represents a further step towards sustainable urban air mobility solutions in Japan. This agreement covering 50 aircraft (2 firm orders and 48 options), estimated at $250 million by the website ainonline.com, strengthens the Brazilian manufacturer's presence in the Asia-Pacific market, identified as strategic for advanced air mobility. The partners present this initiative, beyond the commercial opportunity, as a milestone for accelerating the development of cleaner, smarter and more efficient aviation in major urban areas.
AirX will integrate Eve's eVTOLs into its operations to offer zero-emission urban and regional travel. The aircraft are designed to reduce noise and emissions whilst enhancing passenger comfort. Deployment will initially take the form of sightseeing flights and "last mile" connections in major Japanese cities, particularly Tokyo and Osaka. The schedule calls for delivery of the first two aircraft in 2029, with a ramp-up as demand and operational needs are confirmed.
Through this partnership, AirX aims to offer Japan innovative and sustainable air transport services, in line with national decarbonisation goals. For Eve, the agreement goes beyond the order book.
“Our first agreement in Asia-Pacific, achieved in partnership with AirX in Japan, is more than a milestone; it launches a new era that will redefine urban mobility,” said Johann Bordais, chief executive officer at Eve Air Mobility. “Asia-Pacific is poised to help lead the global transformation toward sustainable air transportation, and together we are pioneering solutions that will redefine how cities connect, move, and thrive. This partnership is a bold step toward a cleaner, smarter future for generations to come.”
The Asia-Pacific region, with its significant concentration of dense and congested megacities, is a target for manufacturers. They are multiplying partnerships and demonstration flights to raise market awareness and encourage the development of infrastructure and regulatory frameworks that would enable deployment of this new service, which is considered highly promising in Japan, South Korea and China.
