Boutique aparthotel goes fully autonomous
In Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Treadwell Mansion has opened a front-desk-free boutique aparthotel powered by the Mews platform. Set within a restored Georgian building dating back more than 250 years, the property offers 38 apartment-style units with full kitchens, alongside a rooftop, on-site parking and a central location steps from the waterfront, restaurants and cultural venues. The team has adopted Mews as its property management system to orchestrate operations, with the official opening taking place on Friday 15 May.
Treadwell Mansion replaces the traditional reception with an autonomous, fully digital guest journey. Travellers complete registration and payment before arrival, receive secure access codes and manage their stay online, from entry to in-stay requests. Behind the scenes, Mews connects a technology ecosystem spanning distribution, accounting, guest messaging and access control, enabling a lean team to run the operation from a single platform. The property is designed to be fully cashless to speed flows and reduce friction.
‘Hospitality designed without legacy constraints’
As a first-time hospitality venture, the Treadwell team built its operating model from the ground up to avoid inherited constraints. “For us, it was about creating a modern hospitality experience from day one,” said Liam Annis, General Manager of Treadwell Mansion. “Mews gave us the flexibility to design exactly how we wanted the guest journey to work, from booking and check-in to everything happening behind the scenes. It’s been intuitive, efficient, and easy to scale.”
Mews, which describes itself as the operating system for hospitality, powers 15,000 customers across 85 countries and has been recognised by Hotel Tech Report as Best PMS (2024, 2025, 2026) and Best POS (2026). “Treadwell is a powerful example of what happens when hospitality is designed without legacy constraints,” said Michael Coscetta, President of Mews. “They’ve taken a 250-year-old landmark and created a fully autonomous operation run by a lean team on a single platform. That’s exactly the kind of modern hospitality experience Mews is built to power.”
Located in the heart of Portsmouth, the property is looking to tap the city’s walkable centre and waterfront. With the grand opening confirmed for Friday 15 May, the project sets out a template that could inspire other heritage rehabilitations looking for a more agile operating model.
