Eurostar is full steam ahead as it becomes first rail operator to have app in ChatGPT

Move could see others set to follow

European rail operator Eurostar is on track for a new direction as it officially launched its app into ChatGPT.

The first rail operator in Europe to do so, the railway firm's move now means that travellers can search for Eurostar routes, check schedules, and plan trips without leaving the AI platform.

Its integration is now available across  the UK, Belgium, and the Netherlands with broader European expansion planned, it has said.

The new app does not yet see tickets purchased via ChatGPT and so after selecting a train and checking fares, the traveller will be redirected to eurostar.com, where they complete the booking and payment.

The operator says it intends to develop the service further, but gradually, with other features under consideration to include easier destination recommendations, a visual representation of the network, travel inspiration and simpler access to certain fares and offers.

It has said it will also explore the possibility of using other chatbots as AI-assisted travel planning becomes more widespread.

François Le Doze, chief commercial officer at Eurostar, said: “Search habits are changing quickly, and travellers are increasingly using conversational tools to research and plan their journeys.

“By launching the Eurostar app in ChatGPT, we are choosing to be present where our customers are already searching for information and planning their travel.

“Our goal remains the same: to make international rail travel simpler, more accessible and more attractive.”
