MyTravel managing director John Bloodworth has said the e-commerce strategy for the group “bodes well” for the future after a sharp rise in the level of online bookings.

He said online sales have climbed from 9% last year to around 19% this year.

MyTravel is also expecting further growth in 2006 as it develops dynamic packaging platforms for the business.

Bloodworth, announcing a 48% reduction in financial losses for the year ending October 31, said a cross section of products were being booked online, adding that its cruise division was performing particularly strongly.

“Our cruise store is the only complete bookable website in the market place and is going very well,” he said. “We have made a large commitment during the year to improving our websites for all tour operating brands. They have more functionality and are content rich. Our Internet future bodes very well.”

He said the development of an agents’ dynamic packaging site for Cresta, Bridge and Tradewinds will help increase online sales to around 24% next year.

Bloodworth denied the web was taking business from the high street and simply offered a route to market being demanded by customers.

MyTravel closed more than 100 Going Places shops in November on the back of its increasing online sales.
