OTA sees surge in bookings to country
Switzerland becoming trending travel destination, says Kiwi.com
Switzerland is emerging as a trending travel destination, according to Kiwi.com which has seen a spike in bookings to the country.
The Czech-based OTA reported that bookings to Switzerland in 2024 have grown by 20.7% compared to 2023, with the number of passengers rising by 28.4%.
It added that prices for Switzerland so far this year are on average 16.8% cheaper than last year.
The Swiss airport most booked is Geneva, followed by Basel and Zürich. The most booked routes into Geneva are currently from Prague, London and Barcelona. Into Basel, Kiwi.com reports popularity from Budapest and Warsaw.
Eliška Řezníček Dočkalová, VP of customer experience at Kiwi.com, said: “Switzerland is an ideal destination for active holidays all year round, and the increased frequency of flights along with new routes support the growing demand, while keeping the prices very reasonable.”
Kiwi.com booking data shows French, Romanian, German, Spanish, and Polish as the top nationalities booking flights to Switzerland.
The booking window has expanded by six days in 2024 – 35 days compared to 29 days in 2023, while its customers booking return trips plan to stay in Switzerland, on average, five days based on bookings made between 1 January and 29 March both years and excluding Swiss nationals.
