Lufthansa and Amadeus renew and extend tech partnership

Leading GDS and airline group expand partnership

Lufthansa Group and Amadeus have announced a renewal and expansion of their longstanding technology partnership.

Under the agreement, Lufthansa Group has agreed a single contract providing access to new services aimed at improving its customer service both online and at the airport.

Specific areas benefiting from the new services include the group’s operations, website layout, mobile check-in at the airport and departure control.

In addition, Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Swiss International Airlines and Air Dolomiti will continue to use Amadeus’ airline IT system, the Altéa passenger service system, to manage reservations, inventory, disruption management and ticketing.

Dr Roland Shütz, chief information officer at Lufthansa Group, said: “With this agreement, we not only strength our cooperation and ensure operational stability, we also set the foundation for fostering innovation and boosting digitalization across our various business areas.”

The agreement includes Amadeus’ Airline Platform which claims to provide airlines with more agility and increased collaboration opportunities with start-ups and partners to innovate, experiment and shorten delivery cycles.

Julia Sattel, president of airlines at Amadeus, said: “Our industry-leading technology will be supporting Lufthansa Group to achieve its business goals from shopping to operations, allowing Lufthansa Group to deliver the same high-quality retailing and passenger experience across its different airlines.”
