Tokyo launches medical information portal

Aimed at helping tourists navigate the city’s health system

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has launched a new online portal, the Tokyo Medical Information Site for Foreign Tourists and Residents.

The initiative is aimed at assisting non-Japanese speakers to navigate the city's healthcare system more easily.

Foreign residents and visitors to Japan sometimes experience difficulties finding the right specialist for their symptoms or locating a facility that offers foreign-language support.

They may also struggle to understand the differences between Japan’s healthcare system and that of their home country.

To address these issues, a new centralised portal provides non-Japanese speakers with essential medical information in one convenient place, so they can seek care with confidence when they aren't feeling well.

Key content includes details on emergency assistance, how to find a medical facility, step-by-step instructions on receiving care, contact information for multilingual support services and other useful information.

The portal is available in Japanese, English, Chinese (simplified and traditional) and Korean. Some content is also available in other languages via AI translation.
