Interactive map aims to show new travel destinations
Schofields Insurance offers off-the-beaten track travel advice with interactive map
Schofields Insurance has created an interactive map for travellers to view potential holiday locations that are off-the-beaten path.
In an effort to draw attention to lesser known adventure spots as opposed to the typical ‘Instagrammable’ locations, the map allows viewers to click on various pinpointed locations and see a photo of each one.
With locations on all continents except Antarctica, the map aims to give a diverse range of locations for viewers to be inspired by.
Locations including the highest mountain in Iceland, 47 unique Greek villages and a horsehoe-shaped Jamaican island are on the map.
Phil Schofield, head of inbound marketing at Schofields, said: “What we know with social media is that it drives people to specific places, to get the perfect image.”
“However, what their perfect images don’t show is the damage to the local area, landscape, the people who live there and the negative demand it drives for unsustainable services which can often be seasonal.”
Popular tourist destinations like Santorini, Eiffel Tower, Leaning Tower of Pisa and US National Parks can see hours-long queues just for guests to take a photo.
Schofield added: “Our thoughts with this map are to get people to see there is more out there, and explore places off the beaten track, and being conscious about the environment.”
