Expedia Group rolls out ChatGPT across travel planning and shopping features

Travel company is offering its members a more intuitive way to plan their trips

Expedia Group has released new AI-powered product features for the Expedia and Hotels.com apps.

The company is using advanced technologies to drive traveller-first transformations including conversational trip planning powered by ChatGPT, smart shopping for hotels and air credit redemption.

“We’ve significantly increased the pace of innovation at Expedia Group over the past few years, allowing us to push the boundaries in tech, loyalty, and service,” said Peter Kern, vice chairman and chief executive of Expedia Group.

Expedia hopes the move will take the complexity out of planning and shopping for a trip - providing members with a more intuitive way to start planning their next big trip.

So as to help travellers visualise the full scope of their trip, AI-powered recommendations can suggest the best room type for travellers based on 40 factors such as who’s travelling, where they’re going, and for how long.

A hotel comparison tool means customers can use the platform to compare prices, ratings, amenities and more, side by side. Users can also personalise their stay with compelling extras like breakfast, parking and access to refunds, with a clear understanding of how much more each will cost.

Activities recommended in the conversation will automatically save to Trip Planner alongside hotels, making it easier for members to stay organised, add more trip items, and start looking into other aspects like availability.

And in an industry first, the software makes it easier for travellers to shop and book a flight using their air credits. Members can just log into their Expedia account to apply their air credit to an eligible flight in just a few clicks.
