TAP Air Portugal introduces Economy Prime, a more premium long‑haul Economy
TAP Air Portugal has introduced Economy Prime, a mid‑tier product that promises more space, greater privacy and premium touches while remaining within the Economy segment. Sales are open now for travel from 1 June 2026. Positioned between Economy and Business, the offer broadens long‑haul choice and will be available on the Airbus A330 and A321LR. The airline says it has opted not to install dedicated seats, instead creating a 12‑seat zone in the first rows of Economy, adjacent to Business, to lift the onboard experience at a controlled price.
These 12 seats, arranged four to a row, guarantee that the adjacent seat is always left free. The extra lateral space is intended to create a quieter, more private environment conducive to a more relaxed journey, the carrier argues. The ground journey is also upgraded with Premium Check‑in, priority baggage handling, Fast Track security access and Premium Boarding, with the aim of smoothing each step from airport arrival to destination.
Prioritising perceived value over a hardware overhaul
On board, the proposition also stands out through a more personalised service. Travellers receive a premium main meal with two hot dishes to choose from and can pre‑select their menu up to 24 hours before departure, along with an amenity kit and a higher‑quality pillow.
Beyond comfort, the airline is targeting frequent travellers who want flexibility. Economy Prime includes flexible benefits such as the ability to rebook and improved refund conditions, alongside more flexible bonus miles accrual.
Each element is designed to improve wellbeing while keeping pricing within an enhanced Economy bracket. TAP is therefore leaning into perceived value rather than a deep cabin hardware refit. The “packaging” approach could lift yields from the front rows of Economy, sharpen commercial differentiation and test demand for greater privacy without heavy cabin investment.
