Former Kuoni UK managing director Nick Hughes has taken on the role of interim head of ancillaries at Easyjet, a role formerly held by his successor at the luxury operator Joanna Edmunds.

Hughes left Kuoni on November 2009 two years after joining in 2007 having previously worked outside of the travel industry for the RAC, American Express and South African Breweries.

Former Kouni commercial director, Edmunds was previously managing director of Thomas Cook Signature as well as Easyjet head of ancillaries.

A spokesman for Easyjet said Hughes will fulfil the interim role until further notice and that the carrier was not looking to recruit a permanent head of ancillaries.

The most recent Easyjet results revealed ancillary revenues generated inhouse were on the increase with double digit revenue increases from checked-in bags, speedy boarding and onboard spend.

However, ancillary revenues through partners such as hotel sales, car hire and insurance were down with the amount generated per seat falling 12.9% in the six months to the end of March compared to the first half of 2009.
