Pan Am returns with the support of Amadeus
The iconic airline Pan Am is partnering with Amadeus for its comeback. This new iteration is banking on cutting-edge technologies to offer a premium experience to its travellers.
Amadeus has been chosen as the technology partner for the return to business of the iconic Pan American World Airways. The two companies have signed a Letter of Agreement (LOA) to deliver a "modern and seamless" travel experience on scheduled services.
"We are honored that the legendary Pan Am brand is set to return to the skies operating on Amadeus' future‑ready technology foundation, combining the airline's rich heritage with modern retailing, personalized offers, and a seamless digital experience," states Kamal Singhee, SVP, Airlines, North Americas at Amadeus.
The airline, whose troubles began with the oil crisis in the 1970s, ceased operations in 1991. This initiative, led since 2025 by Ed Wegel, founder of Global Crossing Airlines and aviation consultancy AVi8 Air Capital, is the seventh attempt to relaunch the brand with a fleet of Airbus A320 Neo aircraft based in Miami. Eager to reconnect with the brand's original image, this new relaunch is accompanied by a determination to use Amadeus' technological expertise to target the premium market.
"Pan Am is more than a brand – it is the most iconic name in commercial aviation history, and its return must be powered by best‑in‑class technology," affirms Ed Wegel, Chief Executive Officer of Pan American World Airways. "Partnering with Amadeus provides a world‑class foundation to build a modern, competitive, customer‑focused airline that honors Pan Am's legacy while delivering the innovation and reliability today's travelers expect."
