AI-powered iFlight unifies operations and crews
Korean Air unifies operations with IBS Software’s iFlight
Korean Air has selected iFlight, IBS Software’s airline operations platform, following a rigorous evaluation, positioning it as the mission-critical backbone for Operations Control, Crew Planning, Crew Tracking and training on a single, cloud-native architecture. The move aims to centralise data, speed up decision cycles and provide real-time visibility across flights and critical human resources.
The deployment was phased: Operations Control first, followed by Crew Tracking and then Crew Planning. Each module feeds a shared, real-time data store with AI capabilities, intended to orchestrate pilot and cabin crew assignments more effectively, anticipate disruptions and harmonise training. The unified architecture is designed to accelerate decision-making and improve situational awareness across the operation.
A first deployment at this scale
According to the airline, the programme should boost operational resilience, raise productivity and crew satisfaction, and improve oversight through centralised data. The promised agility is designed to match Korean Air’s global footprint and the complexity of its network. Over time, the use of algorithms and predictive analytics is expected to optimise aircraft and staffing utilisation, reduce the impact of irregular operations and smooth day-to-day decision-making from the operations control centre to planning teams.
"This successful deployment is the result of a long, collaborative journey with IBS Software built on trust, innovation and a shared vision," said Kenny Chang, EVP and Chief Marketing Officer, Korean Air. "By migrating to the iFlight cloud-native platform, we have unified our operations with a level of agility that matches the scale and complexity of our global network. This transformation not only streamlines our internal processes and empowers our crew but directly supports our mission to provide a seamless travel experience for our passengers."
"Partnering with Korean Air, one of the world's most prestigious carriers, to deliver such a complex and mission-critical transformation is a proud moment for IBS Software," said Ryo Funakoshi, SVP and Head of East Asia, IBS Software. "This is the first full-scope deployment of iFlight covering a global full-service carrier with pilots, cabin crew and aircraft management. It demonstrates the scalability, reliability and innovation that our customers expect as they build the airlines of the future."
For the sector, the project underscores the growing maturity of cloud-native platforms that span the entire operations and crew remit at a major network carrier. IBS Software presents the roll-out as the first full-scope iFlight deployment at a global airline.
Korean Air, which counts itself among the world’s top 20 airlines, serves 116 cities in 39 countries across five continents with a fleet of 165 aircraft, according to the release. The upcoming integration with Asiana Airlines will be a real-world test for iFlight, which is expected to support a significant rise in aircraft numbers, headcount and route complexity.
