Kayak lifts lid on ‘challenger’ to Tripadvisor with new TravelPost
Meta search specialist Kayak has unveiled the long awaited revamped TravelPost reviews site.
TravelPost combines reviews, content and rates for some 140,000 hotels from more than 200 travel sites in a single display.
It is being touted by some as a serious competitor to user review giant Tripadvisor.
The site offers detailed property descriptions, photos, maps and reviews from travellers and professionals, and is also integrated with the kayak rate search tool.
The focus for the next quarter is to sign European hotel review providers to broaden travelpost’s international offering.
Kayak co-founder and chief executive Steve Hafner said: “Consumers and hoteliers are woefully underserved by websites like TripAdvisor, who appear to care more about their bottom lines than providing relevant content and a seamless experience.”
He went on to describe travelpost as a combination of an ‘uncluttered display and unbiased results that are not auctioned off to the highest bidder.’
Travelpost features content directly from brands such as Accor, Radisson Hotels & Resorts and Morgans Hotel Group as well as online travel agencies including ebookers.
The site also offers Kayak’s filtering and sorting tools enabling users to easily find relevant reviews from like-minded travellers.
Google Maps have also been integrated into the revamped service for users to view geographic details of their search results.
The US-based TravelPost business was originally bought by Sidestep and became part of the larger acquisition by Kayak in late-2007.
