Exclusive: Social media push for P&O Cruises
P&O Cruises has joined forces with web design specialist Nucleus to develop a community platform on its website. The service, which will go live this week, is designed to encourage greater interaction on the site and foster increased customer loyalty. According to new media manager Elliott Pritchard, P&O Cruises already has an online forum with 45,000 active members attracting about 3,000 posts a week. “We’re now looking to go to the next level. Social media and cruising are naturally well suited and with the growth of the cruise sector offering community aspects it’s essential to keep customers coming back to our website.” Pritchard added that the cruising sector was predicted to grow 6% this year including P&O Cruise’s own Azura superliner, which will bring an additional 20% capacity to the company. The community will offer Facebook-style features enabling users to upload images, submit reviews, create a cruise blog, send messages to each other and set up groups. A video section is also being developed with the company’s existing clips on its ships and shore excursions. Pritchard said the community elements would not be a substitute for the company’s presence on Facebook and YouTube. He added that usability had also been enhanced on the site with additional search criteria to help cruise newcomers.
