Door-to-door trip builder Rome2Rio unveils open source iPhone app
Door-to-door multi-modal travel itinerary builder Rome2Rio has launched an iPhone app making the source code open to partners to integrate it with their own offerings.
The search engine offers travellers the ability to research trips between places not linked by air services or to look for alternative arrangements including rail, coach and even walking.
The technology builds a complete door-to-door trip, integrating flight schedules with bus, train and ferry itineraries as well as mapping data for driving and walking directions.
Co-founder Michael Cameron told this week’s PhoCusWright Travel Innovation Summit Europe and Asia that areas where ground transportation was not so stigmatised offered the greatest opportunity.
Rome2Rio, which offers partners a customisable white label solution for a licence fee was said to be an opportunity for agents to offer a “true consultative” approach to customers.
Announcing the launch of the iPhone app, Cameron said: “We are making the source code of our app fully available.
“We want to make it as easy as possible for our partners to integrate our source in their apps.
“This keeps customers on your site and is an opportunity to attract new customers by differentiating yourself from your competitors.
“It’s an opportunity to sell new inventory like rail and to do a better job of selling your existing inventory.”
Cameron conceded that Google was likely to provide competition but he welcomed that.
