Jet2 tour operator site breaks 25K passenger barrier
More than 25,000 people booked a break through jet2holidays.com between March and September, according to its parent company’s interim results released yesterday.
All seats are provided by Jet2, which is owned by the UK-listed Dart Group. Lowcostbeds recently partnered with Jet2 to provide accommodation as part of the deal.
Jet2, which specialises in departures out of six big UK regional airports, carried 2.3 million passengers during the six months, slightly down on last year’s 2.6 million, although loads were up to 80.4% from 74%.
Yields were ahead of last year, with revenue per passenger significantly up at £15.17 this time compared with £8.60.
“The introduction of our new in-house developed reservation system in February this year has enabled us to make it easier for our customers to purchase extra services,” it said.
However, the notes to the financial statement mentioned that Dart Group is “vigorously defending” litigation in the US against Sutra Inc and Novak Niketic, “who provided use of the reservation system operated by Jet2.com until February 2008, in relation to the termination of the use of this system.”
It estimates that it would be liable for around $2.5 million “in the unlikely event that the counterclaim is successful.”
The airline operates a fleet of 30 aircraft, 29 of which it owns. Overall capacity will be maintained at levels similar to those of summer 2008,” it said, in contrast to other leisure airlines who are cutting flights.
It has however scaled back for the current winter season. Next summer’s programme will feature new destinations such as Turkey, Croatia and the Red Sea and more flights out of Manchester.
