Firsty and Proximus Global team up on affordable roaming across borders
In its mission to reshape global mobile connectivity, tech startup Firsty has selected digital communications company Proximus Global to power connectivity for its eSIM platform worldwide.
The partnership aims to bring travelers extra convenience and peace of mind almost anywhere in the world through more affordable options for roaming compared to traditional roaming rates.
Firsty offers eSIM-based mobile connectivity for service providers, international companies, and individual travelers.
It offers several unique service models, including the first free global connectivity for consumers, and several partnerships with companies including Uber, Mastercard, and Belfius.
Playing card manufacturer Cartamundi, among others, uses the technology to keep its traveling employees connected online easily and affordably.
Through the partnership, Firsty will combine its proprietary telecom stack, including its own eSIM provisioning, with Proximus Global’s extensive mobile infrastructure, expertise, and relationships globally.
For Firsty, this will mean faster time-to-market, lower operational costs, and an improved end-user experience.
“Without the global networks of partners like Proximus, our mission would not be possible. Together, we are leveling the playing field, whether you are a bank, a traveler, or a digital player," said Gauthier Thierens, co-founder of Firsty.
"Our users no longer have to think about mobile connectivity while travelling, whether it be 'eSIM swaps' for each country or different international rates for roaming. They are simply connected, in more than 170 countries, for free or at a fixed low price.
Jorn Vercamert, chief product officer at Proximus Global, added: "Cross-border telecom has historically been complex. The arrival of eSIM has changed this. But for it to work well, global scale and collaborations with operators around the world are essential.
"This is precisely what Proximus Global can offer Firsty, to jointly enable players like Uber to be online worldwide."
