Cruises: Windstar adopts IDeaS’ Cruise RMS to steer pricing

Windstar Cruises has selected IDeaS to modernise its revenue strategy by deploying its Cruise Revenue Management System. The Miami-based cruise line wants to better anticipate demand and adjust prices across its fleet. For IDeaS, a SAS company and a long-standing player in hotel revenue management, the contract marks a fresh step in extending its tools to the cruise sector. The announcement comes amid sustained market growth, with 38.9 million passengers projected in 2026 and industry revenue expected to top $46.5 billion, according to the release.

Better gauge total guest value

The cruise line will use IDeaS Cruise RMS to aggregate data tied to itineraries, ship types, cabin categories and customer segments. The platform deploys forecasting algorithms powered by artificial intelligence to recommend swifter pricing adjustments than the manual methods used until now. One benefit of the system is that it integrates onboard spending into its optimisation logic. The aim is not merely to maximise the cabin price but to estimate the passenger’s total value more accurately, factoring in dining, excursions, wellness and other purchases made during the trip.

“With an expanding fleet, our team needs to revenue manage with a level of precision and speed that simply can't be done on an Excel sheet. IDeaS' cruise-specialized RMS will help us anticipate demand more accurately and adjust pricing accordingly across our portfolio,” said Victor Valencia, vice-president of revenue management at Windstar Cruises.

IDeaS says it has more than 31,000 installations worldwide, spanning independent hotels, resorts, international chains, cruises and even certain ancillary services. Windstar, for its part, currently operates seven ships, with an eighth due in December 2026.
