Cruisebound launches 'Search by Map', a map-based cruise search

Announced on 26 March 2026, the feature is available now

Cruisebound has launched Search by Map, a visual discovery mode that puts the map at the centre of cruise planning. Through an interactive interface, travellers can scan the globe, check departure, arrival or port-call points, and see itineraries connected to each location. Announced on 26 March 2026, the feature is available now and reflects the company’s aim to make cruise planning simpler and more intuitive.

The tool lets users select a place and instantly surface all cruises linked to it. Rather than clicking through static lists and filters, travellers build their journey directly from the map, with routes and real sailings visualised as they go. The approach blends design and engineering choices to make complex itineraries legible while speeding up search and reducing steps to booking.

“We approached Search by Map as both a design and engineering challenge,” said Johan Villamil, the project’s lead software engineer. “Cruise itineraries are complex by nature, and our goal was to surface that complexity in a way that feels seamless and immediate. The map allows users to visually explore their journey before they book it. The result is a faster, more dynamic way for travelers to connect ports, routes, and real sailings.”

The company says the launch addresses a familiar issue in cruise distribution: many customers simply don’t know the breadth of destinations or the variety of routes on offer. “Search by Map is the latest way we are delivering on the promise of Cruising Made Simple,” said Claire Gibbons, COO at Cruisebound. “Many customers may not even be aware of all the places they can go on a cruise or what itineraries are available to them. Search by Map is an intuitive way to discover your next cruise vacation and further differentiates Cruisebound from other travel agencies.”

The feature is already accessible via the Cruisebound website. Founded in 2022, the company aggregates sailings from major cruise lines and offers a search and comparison engine with transparent pricing, flexible payment options and no booking fees. Search by Map adds to that ecosystem, aiming to speed up access to itineraries worldwide.
