Adyen and Uber expand partnership into new markets

Adyen and Uber are extending their global agreement to cover new territories, enhance local merchant acquisition and introduce new payment methods such as Pix, Afterpay and WeChat Pay

The two companies are announcing the expansion of their partnership, which was initiated in 2012 to support the international expansion of the mobility and delivery group. As Uber now operates in more than 70 countries across six continents, the company is relying more heavily on Adyen’s unified platform to optimise its payment performance and offer more local payment methods.

The agreement is expanding its geographic reach. Uber will use Adyen in new territories such as the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, and the Caribbean, while improving transaction processing as a local merchant in several key markets, including Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, and Australia. This local acquisition capability is primarily aimed at improving acceptance rates and reducing costs associated with cross-border transactions.

"The expansion of our partnership with Uber underscores a shared commitment to achieving global scale together, which has continued for well over a decade," explained Trevor Nies, SVP Global Head of Digital at Adyen. "Having already supported strong volume acceleration in 40 key markets over the last year, including the US, UK, and Brazil, we remain focused on enhancing Uber's payments experience, from offering new payment methods to pioneering new business lines.”

Uber will leverage Adyen’s Checkout API to more quickly integrate payment methods with high local adoption. These include Pix in Brazil, Afterpay in Australia, and WeChat Pay, to meet the needs of travelers using Uber’s WeChat mini-program. The goal is to better meet users' payment preferences across different markets and improve conversion rates throughout the customer journey.

"A reliable and innovative payment platform is a fundamental requirement for Uber's global growth. Continuing and expanding our partnership with Adyen is key to that, enabling us to support our growth and quickly integrate new methods," said Karl Hébert, Vice President of Global Commerce at Uber. "We are excited to leverage their technology to realize the full potential of our ongoing innovation and expansion into new business areas.”

In December 2025, the two partners unveiled Uber kiosks integrated with Adyen terminals, enabling users to book lessons without a smartphone. The first kiosk was deployed in Terminal C at LaGuardia Airport (New York), and further installations are planned in international airports, hotels, and ports.
