California-based start-up Mindtrip has made no secret of its interest in Europe. Now, that ambition is being realised with a first partnership.

The company has reached an agreement with the Norwegian Travel Cluster, which brings together 29 Norwegian destination management and marketing organisations.

Under the partnership, its conversational-AI trip-planning tool will be integrated into the national Norway by Locals platform.

Using the tool, travellers are invited to express their wishes and constraints in natural language (trip type, dates, budget, and so on).

The AI draws on editorial content from local partners and generates tailored recommendations and itineraries, presenting them with relevant assets such as text, images and interactive maps.

The partnership serves several aims.

Norwegian destinations hope to adapt their content to respond to queries now made in natural language and, where needed, to steer visitors towards lesser-known places or more responsible travel options.

For the Norwegian Travel Cluster, it is also a way to create a common national entry point in a country where tourism promotion is traditionally split across many destinations.

"AI is transforming how people discover and plan travel, creating new opportunities for destinations to connect travelers with experiences that truly match their interests," said Andy Moss, founder and chief executive of Mindtrip.

"The Norwegian Travel Cluster's decision to bring destination organizations together around a shared vision is a powerful example of how technology can amplify local expertise. Together, we're helping travelers move from inspiration to action while discovering the diversity of Norway's regions, communities, and experiences."

For Mindtrip, the announcement marks its commercial entry into Europe and its first launch in Scandinavia.

The European expansion also includes a separate partnership with Madeira Promotion Bureau in Portugal.
