Room service orders, housekeeping and concierge advice will be available to guests via Amazon’s digital assistant Alexa when staying at some US Marriott-owned hotels.

Marriott is reported to have considered both Alexa and Apple’s Siri.

A spokeswoman told the Financial Times the deal with Amazon was not exclusive.

“This was not a direct comparison with Siri,” she said.

Aloft Hotels, which is owned by Marriott, introduced voice-activated hotel rooms controlled via Siri and a custom-built app on an iPad in 2016.

The Wynn Resorts chain in Las Vegas installed the Amazon Echo in around 5,000 hotel suites in 2016.
