Radisson targets 100 Verified Net Zero hotels by 2030

Global roll-out targets 100 hotels by 2030

Radisson Hotel Group has confirmed the global scale-up of its Verified Net Zero Hotels (VNZ) program. Following a pilot phase that ran through 2025 to prove net zero can be achieved in existing hotel buildings, the group has set a quantified target: 100 verified hotels by 2030. The announcement was made at the International Hospitality Investment Forum (IHIF) 2026 and comes with a phased deployment timetable from 2026, including a first property in South Africa — a first for the African continent.

The approach covers all three emission scopes. Direct and energy-related emissions (Scopes 1 and 2) are eliminated through electrification, connections to renewable district heating and cooling networks, and sourcing 100% renewable electricity. Indirect emissions (Scope 3) are reduced across food and beverage, waste, laundry, guest amenities and business travel. Each hotel undergoes third‑party verification by TÜV Rheinland.

The programme, which to date has been rooted in Europe, is opening to new markets. The 2026 roll-out begins in Norway, ahead of Denmark, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Africa will welcome its first VNZ hotel in South Africa. Over five years, further locations are planned in Germany, Austria and Spain’s Canary Islands. To make the proposition clearer for guests, the ‘Verified Net Zero’ icon will appear in physical and digital form, with QR‑enabled educational content. A 3D version of the icon, incorporating organic waste from hotel operations, underlines the programme’s operational focus.

Early results are encouraging

The initiative speaks to growing demands for transparency from regulators, investors and travellers. Early results from Manchester and Oslo suggest environmental and commercial performance can align. Each hotel posts awareness scores above 70%, and around 20% of guests say they booked because of the Net Zero status.

Inge Huijbrechts, Chief Sustainability & Security Officer at Radisson Hotel Group, said: “The excellent results from the Manchester and Oslo Verified Net Zero (VNZ) hotels support the expansion of Radisson Hotel Group’s pioneering program. The hotels show strong carbon reduction across all emission scopes, high guest awareness, and clear support for sustainable meetings and events. They also provide hotel owners with a practical pathway to future-proof their properties and move toward Net Zero,” says Inge Huijbrechts, Chief Sustainability & Security Officer at Radisson Hotel Group. “Our guests know the concept is fully transparent and trustworthy—these hotels offer a Net Zero stay or a Net Zero Meeting & Event space, guaranteed!”

These signals support the programme’s expansion and give owners a concrete operational framework to future‑proof their assets as decarbonisation requirements tighten. With this roll‑out, Radisson aims to make operational net zero a verified, repeatable and results‑oriented framework.
