S4BT - Solutions for Business Travel - has launched a mobile wallet for corporate hotel payments in partnership with payments platform Pliant, giving travellers access to authorised virtual cards through their smartphones.
The new capability, developed by S4BT’s finance technology brand Trevium, is available globally to S4BT clients using Pliant-issued virtual cards.
The launch aims to simplify the hotel payment experience for business travellers while retaining existing processes for hotel payments, spend controls and financial reconciliation.
Under the new system, travellers receive a pre-arrival message with a secure link one day before check-in, allowing them to add the virtual card associated with their booking to a compatible mobile wallet and pay at the hotel using contactless technology.
The browser-based process does not require travellers to download or activate an additional app.
S4BT said the launch addresses a gap in corporate travel payments, where virtual cards are typically generated in the background and sent directly to hotels, leaving travellers without direct access to the authorised payment method.
The issue can be particularly pronounced when payments are split between centrally covered room and breakfast costs and additional services that may otherwise require travellers to use personal cards and claim expenses afterwards.
Christopher Hecht, CEO of Trevium and global payment solutions officer at S4BT, said the wallet would bring the convenience of mobile payments to managed business travel.
“Business travellers are used to paying with their smartphones every day. An authorised hotel payment should be just as simple,” he said.
“With the Wallet, the authorised virtual card is available directly on the traveller’s phone before arrival, bringing the convenience of mobile payment to managed travel while preserving the control, security and expert support companies rely on.”
Designed to work with S4BT’s existing booking and payment infrastructure, requiring changes to virtual card generation and the transfer of associated booking data through Trevium’s Payment and Booking APIs.
Pliant remains the underlying card provider, meaning hotels continue to receive booking and virtual card information through established processes. Finance teams can also continue using existing statement files for reconciliation.
The wallet supports both direct and split-payment models. Where a single virtual card covers a booking, the existing hotel payment process remains unchanged.
For split payments, two virtual cards are generated, with one covering room and breakfast costs and the other allocated to additional services.
The additional-services card is made available through the traveller’s mobile wallet, while the primary accommodation payment follows the usual hotel payment process.
Both the hotel and traveller draw on the same authorised balance for cards accessible through the wallet. Payments made through one channel reduce the remaining balance available through the other, helping to prevent duplicate payments and maintain control over authorised spending.
The launch marks the second development from the Trevium and Pliant partnership, following the introduction of Guaranteed Transaction Enrichment in July 2026.
That solution focuses on ensuring finance teams receive complete and validated transaction data before billing begins, while the new wallet extends the partnership's scope to the payment experience at the hotel.
Lukas Gottschick, chief commercial officer at Pliant, said: “Together with Trevium, we are delivering practical improvements for business travel.
“Following Guaranteed Transaction Enrichment, the Wallet brings that work to the point of stay, combining Pliant’s payment infrastructure with Trevium’s expertise in hotel payment processes.”
The companies said the two capabilities address complementary parts of the hotel payment journey, combining greater convenience for travellers with the financial controls and transaction data required by corporate travel and finance teams.
