The prospect of a ‘white Easter’ has triggered a 61% surge in online travel bookings in the run up to the holiday period.

A 61% rise compared to last year has been seen in latest data from Worldpay as forecasters predict freezing temperatures and snow over the bank holiday weekend.

Online travel agents have seen the biggest boost so far, with sales more than double this time last year, and these numbers could rise even further as the Easter weekend draws nearer.

Worldpay airlines and travel vice president Thomas Helldorff said: “It may be spring, but snow is still on the cards as we approach the Easter bank holiday.

“Whether they’re in search for sun or ski, bargain-hungry Brits are rushing to book last-minute breaks to escape the ‘Beast from the East’.

“Savvy travellers love to shop around, research the best deals and book from a travel website that is convenient and easy to use.

“To cash in on the cold weather, online travel agents should consider special ‘flee the Beast’ promotions to drive more sales in the lead up to this holiday period.”
