Global OTA Travix has named industry veteran Chee Teong Ooi as the firm’s chief executive in a push for post-COVID growth.

He arrives with 20 years of experience in the travel industry and will take over for Michiel Delaere, who will step down at the end of November following 11 years of leadership at Travix.

Ooi will use his travel IT and distribution knowledge to expand Travix’s presence in the booking world, drawing on experience from travel firms GDS and the Sabre-owned Abacus, where he recently served as general manager for Abacus China.

Also, OTA Trip.com saw Ooi develop the firm’s flight team and content strategy starting in 2015, a leadership period that globalised the brand.

Ooi currently holds the position of associate vice president of the global flight business at Trip.com Group in addition to holding board member roles at Travelfusion, Travix and other Trip.com Group-invested entities.

As Travix grows business across 39 countries, Ooi will bring his understanding of global flight and travel product distribution networks to help the firm service thousands of customers a day.

Travix has headquarters in the Netherlands, Dubai, India, Singapore, the UK and the US and features a portfolio of 43 websites, according to the brand.
