Uber opens lounge at Dubai airport

For improved first impressions of the destaintion and airport

Dubai Airport wants to enhance the fluidity and comfort of connections between air and ground transport by opening a lounge dedicated to ride-hailing users.

Waiting for a ride-hailing service on a sidewalk surrounded by dozens of other travellers who can finally light a cigarette isn't exactly the most pleasant experience. Dubai Airport has announced the opening of a dedicated waiting area for travelers needing a ride from Uber or Careem, the local ride-hailing company owned by Uber since 2020. 

It will now be possible to wait for your driver in an air-conditioned space equipped with charging stations and signage to manage the flow of passengers.

In addition to its amenities, this space features a PIN dispatch system that facilitates vehicle confirmation and assignment. Passengers are thus directed, invited to wait in a designated area, and to proceed to the pick-up zone once a vehicle is available.

This new equipment is designed to address several shortcomings identified in the handling of travelers upon arrival, particularly in an airport like Dubai, which experiences intense heat. Travelers can also benefit from improved comfort thanks to smoother connections and a reduction in driver-passenger mix-ups.

For the destination, the challenge is also to improve the first impression travellers have upon landing in Dubai. 

“For millions of travelers, the journey begins the moment they arrive in Dubai, and we want that initial welcome to be simple, reassuring, and immediately recognizable as Dubai,” explained Majed Al Joker, chief operating officer of Dubai Airports. 

For Saeed AlNazari, Secretary General of the Dubai Civility Committee, quoted by ftnNEWS, the quality of service is also embodied by this initiative.
