$10m to fuel Japan and Southeast Asia growth
Omio secures $10M to accelerate Asia expansion
Omio has confirmed a $10 million strategic investment from Granite-Integral to speed its push into Japan and strengthen its presence across Southeast Asia.
The announcement comes as Asia-Pacific draws rising numbers of international travellers and multimodal itineraries - combining rail, coach, air or ferry - gain traction.
The Berlin-based group aims to capitalise on that momentum by widening its transport network in the region and making it simpler to search, compare and book trips on a single platform.
The funds will be used to densify the network in Japan and Southeast Asia, deepen local partnerships, refine the customer offer and expand teams both in Japan and at its Singapore technology hub focused on artificial intelligence.
In Japan, Omio has already integrated inventory from operators including Japan Railways (JR Group) and Willer Express.
The platform is leaning on its multimodal proposition, bringing several transport modes into a single search and purchase flow to reduce the complexity of travel beyond the biggest cities.
“Japan is one of the most exciting travel markets in the world today. Millions of travellers visit every year, but planning journeys across different operators and transport modes can still be complex, particularly beyond the major cities.
With Granite-Integral’s unparalleled regional expertise, we intend to accelerate a new era of connected travel in Japan, expand our presence across Southeast Asia and continue building a more connected future for travel across Asia,” said Naren Shaam, founder and chief executive of Omio.
According to the company, Asia-Pacific is expected to remain the most dynamic travel region over the next five years, while a significant share of travellers now combine multiple modes on a single itinerary. In a fragmented market, Omio says it can add an orchestration layer by aggregating supply and harmonising the experience.
Backing from Granite-Integral, which highlights sector expertise and investment networks in Asia, is expected to provide on-the-ground acceleration.
Omio already operates a hub in Singapore, described as a global centre of excellence in AI, exploring how artificial intelligence can transform mobility and the customer experience.
Omio, which has announced plans to acquire Rail Europe, offers bookable options in 47 markets and reports more than one billion annual users at group level, including Rome2Rio.
The group says it sells over 100,000 tickets a day, employs more than 430 people and has offices in Berlin, Singapore, Prague, Melbourne and Bangalore. Launched in Japan at the start of 2026, the company is targeting over 70 markets by 2028, with Japan and Southeast Asia among its growth priorities.
