Global e·dentity Inc now monitors your heart rate at the airport
The American company, Global e·dentity Inc, has announced a new version of its identification device for airports.
The solution, which uses vascular and physiological signals, promises to respect passenger privacy.
Its new version of its Build 60 solution for airports, a biometric recognition system designed to be "multimodal", verifies passenger identity using 3D vascular biometrics, real-time presence detection, and heart rate-based verification.
This device uses 3D vascular mapping as a unique identifier for each individual. Heartbeat detection is presented more as "proof of life," ensuring the scanned person's physical presence and protecting against potential circumvention of this biometric control.
Global e·dentity states that all this data is encrypted and stored on the traveler's smartphone to guarantee data confidentiality.
Build 60's ambition is to enable much faster control (the company estimates that its solution could reduce waiting time at airport security checks by 94% with this multimodal biometric technology which should be able to overcome the shortcomings of facial recognition, in particular, the company believes, in terms of privacy protection).
The choice to store this information in a terminal owned by the traveler himself allows Global e·dentity to guarantee compliance with confidentiality requirements.
“Build 60 demonstrates that security and privacy are not incompatible,” said Robert Adams, CEO of Global e·dentity Inc.
“We can virtually eliminate lines at security checkpoints while giving every American complete control over their own biometric identity. In an unprecedented move, and to accelerate testing conducted over the past year, our team provided our entire source code to the DHS Science & Technology and TSA teams for review and integration into their traveler ecosystem.”
Global e·dentity claims to have submitted its complete source code to the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for potential integration into airports across the United States.
These two agencies are now partners in this research project through a co-development agreement (CRADA).
The company welcomes this agreement and sees it as an opportunity to entrust these functions to an American company, while acknowledging the important role of a foreign partner without explicitly naming the French company Idemia.
