Room-type matching for independent hotels
PriceLabs sharpens hotel rate shopper with room-type categorisation
PriceLabs has updated its built-in hotel rate shopper with room-type categorisation, aiming squarely at independent hotels, particularly owner-operated properties.
The revenue management software provider says the tool is available immediately at no extra cost for hotel customers.
The platform now lets hoteliers compare like with like through ready-made competitive sets tailored to property type, star rating, size and average price band.
Selection filters have been overhauled - spanning stars, review volume and rating, unit count, radius and property type - with a redesigned search flow and improved map view.
Crucially, each room type can be matched to the nearest equivalent at competing properties, and where no true equivalent exists the comparison reverts to a competitor’s standard property rate for transparency.
Rate comparisons can also be filtered by length of stay, refundability and breakfast inclusion.
The update is designed to cut the time spent manually checking prices and conditions - still common among independents - while clarifying whether rooms are genuinely comparable. By improving the quality of benchmarking, PriceLabs aims to feed more precise competitive intelligence into its pricing recommendations.
The platform also draws on hotel and short-term rental data, reflecting how many independents now weigh themselves against serviced apartments and holiday rentals as much as traditional hotels.
The democratisation of tools once reserved for large chains is gathering pace. For lean teams, the ability to compare equivalent rooms and similar rate types reduces analytical bias and sharpens price positioning.
“Independent hotels shouldn’t need an enterprise budget to access sophisticated competitor intelligence.
Over the past several months, we’ve focused on removing the manual work from competitor benchmarking while making PriceLabs even more accurate, more intuitive, and more effective for independent operators who manage pricing themselves,” said Anurag Verma, co-founder of PriceLabs.
“By allowing hotels to compare equivalent rooms rather than simply comparing properties, we’re giving them a much clearer understanding of their competitive position. Because that benchmarking feeds into our pricing recommendations, better market intelligence ultimately helps hotels make better pricing decisions.”
Hotel Rate Shopper is included for PriceLabs hotel customers at no additional cost, with new users getting ready-made comp sets from day one.
In early July, the company extended access to its tools via a mobile app, an AI connector (MCP) and an enriched API. In April, PriceLabs moved beyond pure dynamic pricing with Revenue Accelerator, a decision-support and forecasting module.
