Support for helping hands

Selected initiatives and organizations committed to social issues have a dependable partner in Deutsche Telekom.

As well as providing financial support, we also make our core competencies available to these projects, allowing them to benefit from the expertise and technical resources of an international technology provider.

Infrastructure for medical charities

Since 2003, Deutsche Telekom has supported the medical charity "Ärzte für die Dritte Welt", whose mission is to improve the medical situation in the world’s poorest regions through aid projects, educational programs, and food programs. Since its foundation in 1983, more than 2,300 doctors have given up their annual leave to work for this project. Deutsche Telekom supports the charity by providing logistics, funding, technical equipment and expertise. The communications infrastructure we provide makes working and day-to-day living much easier for the doctors in the field. Deutsche Telekom also supports this charity with key fundraising activities, as well as helping with press and public relations work.

For example, in September 2008, the aid organization celebrated its 25th birthday at Deutsche Telekom’s Berlin Representative Office, accompanied by extensive publicity.

Help for children in war-torn countries

In the Netherlands, T-Mobile supports the aid organization "War Child", which provides psychological support to children in crisis regions. Numerous psychologists, artists and volunteers around the world work for this charity, which helps the children to come to terms with their traumatic experiences. The organization is also devoted to raising awareness of the children’s fate. In 2008, information events about child soldiers were staged by War Child and T-Mobile Netherlands in 13 cities. T-Mobile also staged a major campaign to collect unwanted cell phones, proceeds from which were donated to the organization. Collection points were provided in all T-Mobile shops. The collected phones were auctioned off, having first separated the defective handsets for eco-friendly recycling. T-Mobile employees set a good example by donating the first 1,500 phones.

Information portal for the chronically sick

Since 2007, Deutsche Telekom has been a partner to the “Allianz Chronischer Seltener Erkrankungen” (ACHSE e.V./German Alliance for Chronic Rare Diseases), which provides support to people suffering from rare, chronic conditions. Eva Luise Köhler has been the patron of this organization since 2005. In Germany alone, some four million people are affected by one of 6,000 or more rare conditions, many of which are almost or entirely unresearched. In 2008, with the help of Deutsche Telekom, the charity was able to launch an information portal on the Internet, providing patients with reliable, intelligible information. Affected individuals, together with their friends and families, can use this portal to obtain information, network, and make contact with doctors and self-help groups specializing in their particular illness. Deutsche Telekom is also helping the charity to optimize its Website and produce its own annual report.
