New figures from market research firm Hitwise show that cruise.co.uk became the most visited cruise travel agency website last year.

In the period December 2013 to November 2014, Iglu Cruise was the top agency site, with almost 20% of the market, closely followed by cruise.co.uk and virginholidayscruises.co.uk.

In the period from December 2014 to November 2015, cruise.co.uk took the top spot, with just over 30% of the market, Iglu Cruise was second with just under 20% and virginholidayscruises.co.uk had just over 10%.

Figures for the December 2015-March 2016 period show the top two extending their lead slightly.

Seamus Conlon, cruise.co.uk managing director, attributed the site’s success to the fact it offers customers “real copy rather than brochure copy”.

“We have become the largest cruise agent site by simply being the main site where potential cruisers can read what other cruisers really think about their past cruises,” he said.

“The future for us is about our consultants and sharing their experiences and knowledge on our site via their blogs.”

Other Hitwise statistics show that P&O Cruises has a dominant share of UK website visits compared to other cruise line websites, with about a third of all visits.
