Rail ticket retailer tackles fraud

Rail ticket retailer tackles fraud has signed up Nasdaq-listed CyberSource not only to process web and call centre payments but also to help in its fight against fraud.

Cybersource’s other clients in the UK include and BA. It has been active in the online payments space since 1996.

Trainline, with 8.4m registered users, is the largest independent rail ticket seller. It also runs the web sites for 15 UK train operating companies, and has dedicated products for the business traveller.

Bill Hopkins, operations director at Trainline, said, ‘We needed a reliable payment solution that could help support [a high quality customer experience] within our rapidly growing online operation, and help us minimise the impact of fraud.’

The fraud prevention part of the deal enables Trainline ‘to access over 150 global validation tests to screen for fraud and determine in real-time whether a booking should be accepted, rejected or marked for further review.’ The parameters are set according to Trainline’s business rules.

Earlier this summer Cybersource released a white paper which showed that of the 165 UK business questioned, ’60-80% are still relying on manual review as a primary line of defence against fraud’.
