Rail booking platform Trainline has signed a deal to partner with Austrian rail and coach firm ÖBB.

The deal means Trainline, which now operates in 36 countries, gets access to the entire Austria rail and coach network, including saver fares and Nightjet connections to countries such as the Czech Republic, Italy and Germany.

Trainline gives customers live-tracking and updates them on their platform numbers via its app, which will now include its Austrian offering.

Daniel Beutler, general manager at Trainline International, said: “We’re delighted to partner with ÖBB. This new partnership means Trainline is the only online independent platform to offer full coverage of rail and coach in Austria – a milestone we are very proud of.

“Thanks to our unique booking technology, we are able to connect ÖBB to carriers in neighbouring countries, so that our customers can travel seamlessly in Austria and beyond.”

Martin Schmutz, head of distribution at ÖBB’s passenger transport division, added: “It’s great that Trainline enables us to reach customers in 173 countries, in 14 languages.”

The expansion comes almost two months since Trainline entered Japan. Trainline now has a network of 156 rail and coach providers across 36 countries.
