Domestic operator Sykes Cottages has been recognised as one of the fastest-growing tech-based companies in the UK.

It comes as Sykes, which offers more than 8,000 holiday cottages, secured its millionth booking.

The Chester-based business was named as one of the region’s top 15 fastest-growing larger technology companies and in a top 100 league table in the Northern Tech Awards. Both accolades are based on sales and profit (EBITDA) growth.

Sykes Cottages grew turnover to £22 million, up 26% on the previous year, In the 12 month to the end of September 2015, its last published accounts.

Chief executive, Graham Donoghue, said: “Technology is an essential part of our proposition and we have invested heavily in our infrastructure in recent years to ensure we continue to reflect how our customers want to browse and book our holiday properties.

“Our millionth booking is a significant milestone and we continue to grow strongly thanks to a rising number of bookings from people both in the UK and overseas attracted by the quality and convenience of our platform.”

The Northern Tech Awards are run by international investment bank GP Bullhound. Award judges include Carol Kane, joint chief executive of online fashion retailer Boohoo, and Pete Flint, partner at Silicon Valley-based growth accelerator NFX Guild.
